Alisa & Lysandra Fraser
Managing Directors of Al.ive body
Q: Walk us through your story!
A: The founders of al.ive body, twins Alisa & Lysandra Fraser, were inspired to create the brand when they struggled to find personal care products that paired premium design and aesthetics with high-quality formulas. As interior designers (and winners of The Block in 2013), whilst working on high-end properties the pair identified that there was a gap in the market for a premium personal care offering. As well as a natural talent for interior transformations, the twins have a passion for high quality, ethical and sustainably produced personal care products. In their research, they found many “natural” brands lacking - some making environmentally conscious claims but using Palm Oil, others leaning heavily on natural ingredients but failing to deliver on formula performance.
It was these insights into the competitive market that was the catalyst for al.ive body. 18 months of hard work in research in development resulted in the now-iconic al.ive body Hand & Body duo. Everything from branding, packaging, design and formulation was meticulously curated by Alisa & Lysandra to their own exacting standards. This includes the arduous task of ensuring that all al.ive body formulas are 100% Palm Oil free, an intensive and expensive standard to satisfy but one which the brand is incredibly proud of.
Since launch in March 2020, the al.ive body Hand & Body Duo has been an incredible success. Appealing to not only the consumer seeking safe and natural personal care products, but also to the design and decor-minded individual who seeks unique and premium items to adorn their home. The al.ive body Hand & Body Duo is unlike any other product on the market. It is the only premium Hand & Body range with a distinctive offering - that is the seamless pairing of design-forward packaging and high quality formulas that deliver results. The unique interlocking bottles, nestled in their custom tray was a spark of genius by Alisa & Lysandra. Not only does the unique silhouette serve as a distinctive asset for the brand, but they also appeal to both the practical and design-minded consumer. The Hand & Body Duo is now available in 5 unique colourways and scents, both facets informed by being at the forefront of both fashion and interior trends, as well as those of perfumery, home fragrance and gastronomy. Both customers and consumers are one of the brand’s most valuable assets, and the twins are fortunate to have fostered a very supportive base who believe in their brand. They ensure they don’t take this for granted, and take great pride in their customer service and maintain the highest standard.

Q: What has been the most rewarding phase of your career?
A: Launching a personal care brand that has now become a household name. We are amazed every day when we see orders coming in from across Australia and the world, and receiving such incredible feedback from our fans. From something that was created by a team of 3, to now employing 13 staff, it has been an incredible ride.
Q: What do you do for inspiration? Do you ever hit creative roadblocks and how do you overcome them?
A: We love getting inspiration from nature and our surrounding environment. When we're feeling creatively blocked we know our best strategy is to get outside and experience our beautiful natural environment. We are lucky to live close to the beach, so a coastal walk does wonders. Alternately we love to go exploring in the gorgeous South Australian hills. If we are struggling we know its time for a holiday or break from a project, even just for a weekend, to clear our heads and help us find our creativity once again.

Q: Who has been the most inspirational person in your life and at what stage?
A: Shaynna Blaze. We met her when we were on The Block, and she encouraged us to take the plunge to leave the police force and pursue interior design full time. Without the encouragement of such an accomplished and perceptive woman we would never have had the courage. She is an inspirational and aspirational designer and fierce business woman who we look up to and aspire to emulate.
Q: What are the best resources that have helped you along the way?
A: Start by dipping your toe in - you can get a taste of the industry via research and seeking work experience with other professionals. Its really important to get an understanding if it is something you will enjoy, because a career like design or running a business will take over your life. You need to love the work, otherwise it will feel like a chore. Research, make connections, volunteer to help out businesses with events or campaigns to get a realistic feel for what the day to day will be like.
Q: What are the best resources that have helped you along the way?
A: We've sought advice from business coaches and mentors, which have been incredibly valuable. We are also voracious consumers of business books and podcasts to hear what thought leaders and those at the top of their game are doing and thinking.
