Britt & Holl Bidlake
Co Founders of Franky Rose
Q: Walk us through your story!
A: Creativity is just a part of both of us, ingrained in us from childhood from our mom and gramma, and as we have gotten older we've realized that we have to embrace it. We want to encourage others to do the same!
After working in other careers, Holly was a carpenter and Britt was a wildfirefighter, we realized it wasn't our true calling. We then decided that we wanted to work collaboratively and develop Franky Rose (see 2nd last response for meaning) as we saw it was lacking in our lives and many others. It is what inspires us daily to connect with our true self and our inner child! Also who wouldn't want to work with their sister making beautiful jewellery and twirling in the meadow. Most of our work is highly inspired by nature, so we make it part of our job to skinny dip, wildcraft, pick wild flowers, go hiking, make potions for our tassel dyes, and just try to connect with our inner child. Life is all about making it how you want to spend your time, so why not make it the most fun; endless belly laughs and all.
Q: Who has been the most inspirational person in my life and at what stage?
A: Our Gramma Alice, she was and always will be a huge source of inspiration for us. She was the most creative "Jill of all trades" type of artist that inspired all women in the family to create passionately with their hands. She was so wise and beat to her own drum recognizing art that wasn't mainstream and following her own creative intuition.
Q: What advice would you give someone wanting to pursue a career similar to yours?
A: Tune into yourself, sit in the quiet, and listen to your soul. What do you hear? What is it that makes you spark? Chase your JOY! Follow that and ignore anyone that tries to tell you differently. And stay close to those that encourage you forward no matter what dream it is. People love authenticity, so the more your true self shines through people will see it, love it, and want to be apart of it.
Q: What are the best resources that have helped you along the way?
A: Never hurts to have a business mentor - one that aligns with you. Pay for good photos!!! Always feed your mind, body, and soul first! You'll be more happy and productive in the long run.
Q: What are your top self care routines?
Never underestimate a quality morning routine. This is by far my favourite topic for WFH and is vitally important for your mental, physical, and spiritual health.
The main principle is to make sure that you encompass each of the three parts below. Mind - I like to meditate, practice mindfulness, listen to calming music or journal.
Everyone is different, so do what makes your mind feel calm and collected. If you are in a rush you can easily just practice mindfulness (focusing on nothing but your 5 senses in the present moment) while you’re in the shower or making your coffee.
Body - move it, stretch it, nourish it with water!!
If you like to exercise in the morning, great, if you don’t, simply tuning into your body and taking some deep breaths into your lungs is great too.
I like to do yoga or stretch for about two songs, yup that’s it!
If I have time for more than the occasional morning jog or bike ride feels really good too. Remember no one is perfect and if all you can do for your body in the morning is drink a giant glass of lemon water and take some deep breaths that’s more than fine.
Activating your body and breath increases blood flow to your brain. Soul - fire it up!! What is it that makes YOU tick? What lights YOU up? Maybe it's singing in the shower at the top of your lungs, or journaling about aliens, looking at your inspiration board or maybe it’s just drinking your coffee in peace and staring into the abyss.
Whatever it is, make sure you take a few minutes in the morning to do it.
Q: What is the most challenging part about what you do?
A: Organization! Since we are both very creative and big picture visionaries, it can be tricky for us to remember our passwords, paperwork, photo organization, adult stuff, you know? lol.
Q: Are you living your life according to your most true self?
A: We think we are. And a big part of what we do is to tune into our intuition and listen to it! We see our future, even though its' hazy at times, we see the bigger picture of where we are headed. We try to incorporate as much goofiness and joy along the way by making part of our job. check out #frankyfridays

Here is the reason behind our company name:
It's also our life motto and goal!
HOW FRANKY ROSE CAME TO LIFE . . .
Who is Franky Rose?
We, Holl and Britt, decided that one of our life goals was to become that little girl we once were. She embodies that version of you with a carefree attitude, full of life confidence and little inhibitions. Her main goal in life is to just be herself and have fun along the way. We call her Franky Rose.
We asked ourselves when was the last time we actually felt that way, felt free and wild? So comfortable in your own skin that you didn’t feel the need to check the mirror before you left the door?
Wandered for so long to realize you had no idea where you ended up? Got so lost in your ice cream cone that you didn’t notice half of it melted on your shirt?
Counted the spots on the lady bug that landed on your knee? We have an overwhelming desire to have more Franky Rose, that inner girl, in our lives. We hope to inspire others to do the same and to share with you the ways in which we try to embrace Franky Rose.
Peace and Love.
Holl and Britt xoxo
