Q: Walk us through your story!
A: The pandemic was the catalyst for the creation of Birdie Home Botanicals when I started working remotely from home in March of 2020.
Like many, I started a plant collection at home and was on a hunt for modern pots to fit my home décor. I would post a picture or video on my Instagram story every time I purchased a plant, and received multiple messages with inquiries. This was the beginning of it all. My husband was very supportive of the idea. I started off doing weekly plant sales via Instagram story, and sales went through the roof.
Six months later, we opened up Birdie Home Botanical’s first location in Santa Ana, CA, and in July of 2021, we opened our second location in Huntington Beach, CA. Both locations are part of Open Market Orange County. We now also have one small location in Dana Point, CA. We are proud of where we are today and thankful to all who have supported us from the beginning and have a passion for plants.

Q: What has been the most rewarding phase of your career?
A: The most rewarding phase of Birdie Home Botanicals are the relationships we’ve built with our vendors as well as our customers and the friendships that have remained to this day.
Q: What do you do for inspiration? Do you ever hit creative roadblocks and how do you overcome them?
A: For inspiration, I am an avid traveler. My husband and I travel almost every month with our two kids. Although it is still a pandemic, we find ourselves on a road trip to places we’ve either been to before or places we’ve never been to. This allows all of us to escape the daily routine. It is very rewarding, as it’s inspiring and fills my sense of passion.

Q: Who has been the most inspirational person in your life and at what stage?
A: My mom has been the most inspirational person in my life since I left home. This is when I experienced life away from home. After college, I started working and my husband and I purchased our first home in Lake Forest. Becoming an adult was not easy, buying a home was not easy, having kids is definitely not easy, but my mom made, and continues to make my life easier.
Q: What are the best resources that have helped you along the way?
A: The best resources that have helped me along the way would be getting to know other local small business owners and visiting botanical gardens in different areas. Another great resource is definitely local plant lover groups on facebook. It’s a great way to get involved with your local plant community for ideas, and is very inspiring.
Q: What is the most challenging part about what you do?
A: The most challenging part about what I do is perfecting how to juggle my full time job, owning a business, and, most importantly, family time.
