Q: Walk us through your story!
A: My teeny tiny business started about 5 years ago when I wanted to start making jewelry for myself. I used to wrap crystals and make necklaces and bracelets out of them. That's where our name came from- Rough x Tumbled.
I was trying to think of words to describe crystals and stones and that is where it all began. So many of my friends were interested in buying my pieces so I started selling them on Etsy. The jewelry phase fizzled out and my boyfriend and I wanted to get into wood working. Well, he was already a wood working pro but I didn't know anything about it. We started making triangle shaped shelves and selling them on Etsy but we ended up moving and didn't have the space to make the shelving anymore so that's when that phase ended.
Recently, I have been super into finding ways to decorate my home with natural, earthy materials and that's where these Pampas Grass & Wheat Stem Suns came to life. I was originally going to make a set for my home but as soon as I posted a photo of them to my Instagram page the orders started flying in! I'm so so thankful that everyone loves them as much as I do and I think I have finally found my niche. I'm super excited to start coming out with more designs using dried florals and earthy materials!
Q: What advice would you give someone wanting to pursue a career similar to yours?
A: Don't hesitate, just do it. The more you sit and think "Is anyone going to even like what I've made?" the more you will convince yourself not to post that beautiful piece of art that most likely everyone is going to love! I used to be so hesitant on selling my jewelry because I didn't know if anyone was going to like it but I'm so so happy I did 5 years ago because if not I wouldn't be where I am today.
Q: What are the best resources that have helped you along the way?
A: Honestly Pinterest is where I find all of my inspiration. I love scrolling for hours reading articles and blogs.
